A quote that really sums up the 2004-2005 League year is, “And it’s still true, no matter how old you are; When you go out into the world, its always better to hold hands and stick together.” What we accomplished by sticking together this year is nothing short of amazing. Never underestimate the impact of 1,000 women sharing the same vision for our community, which is to conquer tomorrow’s challenges and to build a united community.
Our accomplishments this year yielded both community and national exposure. Our Nordstrom event raised awareness and dollars for our organization while our Annual Women Who Make A Difference Luncheon was completely underwritten by Royal Caribbean International. We are truly blessed to be able to partner with such corporate titans as these. Race For The Cure in Miami had 10,000 attendees for the very first time this year, thanks in large part to our very own Junior League members. And let’s not forget the Junior League members across the country that were attending a National Conference in Our Magic City and felt compelled to participate.
On a National scale our League soared this year as well. InStyle Magazine asked our organization to partner with them in a wonderful event on South Beach. They donated more than $20,000.00 to us while providing national coverage in their esteemed magazine for 3 consecutive months. We were able to reach out to more than 100 women during the event that wanted to become members and serve the community in which they live. InStyle has again asked us to continue in this partnership for the coming year and we responded with a resounding, “Yes.”
We were also recognized nationally by our own Association of Junior Leagues International for our idea of a National Volunteer Day. The idea was initially presented at a conference in San Francisco by our own JLM and turned out to be something that all 196 Leagues across the country participated in. We were so proud of the impact we made this year. This same organization awarded us with their highest honors and a grant totaling $10,000 to continue with our community service in partnership with the Miami Dade Juvenile Justice System.
As you can see from the accompanying charts, all of these successful events, grants and national recognition helped us to earn and then distribute close to a quarter of a million dollars through program services. Many thanks to our community and corporate partners, supporters and members who have helped us to realize and sustain our vision of empowering Miami’s women, children and families to conquer tomorrow’s challenges and to build a united community. Thanks for holding hands and sticking together.
