  • Fundraising Projects: Encore Shop nets $85,000. Fifth Annual Auction nets $60,000. Endowment Fund pledges increase to $100,000. Children's Resource Center raises $4,000 from Super Bowl Tickets raffle and receives grants from the United Way for $75,000, The Green Family Foundation for $15,000, and the Dade Community Foundation for $5,000. Inn Transition receives $10,000 from the Women's Relief Association. "Our Miami: The Magic City" receives $10,000 from the United Way and $3,000 from the Rosenberg Foundation for production of a Spanish version of the film. South Dade Transitional Housing receives $285,000 from the Knight Foundation, $190,000 from the Dade County Homeless Trust, and $2.5 million Supportive Housing grant for operating costs for Metro-Dade and capital costs for JLM.

"Our Miami: The Magic City" wins first place communications award at AJLI Annual Conference in "Special Video" category. Endowment Fund named for Ronni W. Bermont. Created JLM's first five year Strategic Plan to take us to the year 2000. Selected focus area as "Families At Risk." Received Proclamation from Miami Beach declaring January 28, 1995, "Junior League Day: Healthy Children, Healthy Families."

  • Fundraising Projects: Encore Shop nets a record $115,000. Gala/Auction nets $80,000. $41,000 is collected for the Ronni W. Bermont Endowment Fund for Community Projects, including $1,000 from the Travelers Foundation and $5,000 from the Dade Community Foundation. $200,000 commitment from We Will Rebuild is received for the South Dade Transitional Housing Project (INN Transition South); Hepatitis B Immunization project receives $68,755 from the Dr. John T. Macdonald Foundation and $5,000 from Merck & Co., Inc. "227-A Kids Place" receives $3,500 from the Dade Community Foundation. Fund Development raises $1,000. "Nuestra Miami: La Cuidad Magica" receives $2,000 from the Dade County Cultural Affairs Council. INN Transition receives $58,000 from the Coral Gables Rotary/Gables Promenade, $25,000 from the Dunspaugh Dalton Foundation, $5,000 from the Ruth & August Geiger Charity Foundation, $2,500 from the Alma Jennings Foundation, and $5,000 from the William J. & Tina Rosenberg Foundation a total of $95,500 toward debt retirement - and $20,000 from the Women's Relief Association for long-term maintenance. JLM contributes $2,750 each to INN Transition North, Inc. and JLM Headquarters, Inc. from film proceeds. JLM Headquarters, Inc. receives $15,000 from the Florida Department of State Division of Historic Resources. JLM members and the community contribute gifts, including computers and in-kind gifts for the Gala/Auction and the film premiere.

  • Major Milestones: JLM purchases and relocates to a significant historic building at 713 Biltmore Way. The 70th Anniversary celebration receives widespread publicity, including a series of public service announcements on Channel 10 and public service ads in The Miami Herald; Gala/Auction has almost 700 attendees, including 21 JLM Presidents! 5-Year Strategic Plan is implemented, guiding our vision to a working reality. Subsidiaries are formed: JLM Headquarters, Inc., INN Transition North, Inc. and INN Transition South, Inc. Doors open at two projects: "227-A Kids Place," an after care facility for homeless and very low income children and the Family Visitation Center, a safe, neutral environment for families requiring court ordered supervision. Prevent Blindness/ Florida presents an award to JLM recognizing three years of dedication & service. The Dade County School Board approves Hepatitis B Immunization as a pilot project. Public Affairs/ Advocacy serves as the catalyst for the Domestic Violence Cellular Phone Project and receives a proclamation from Metro-Dade County. "Our Miami: The Magic City" segments air during the nationally-telecast Orange Bowl Parade and used to promote the Miami Centennial, and the Spanish version of the film, "Nuestro Miami: La Cuidad Magica" is completed and premieres. Tropigram renamed The Junior League Journal and a reformatted Tropical Topics, printed in color, features a painting of our new headquarters and includes substantial advertising. JLM website, one of the first in the nation for Junior Leagues, developed for the Internet. Resource development manual of fundraising policies and procedures initiated along with creation of a grant calendar and solicitation database to track donations and compliance issues. Largest number of proposals and invitations to membership in JLM's history - 137!

Fund Development raises $6,505 through Macy's Charity Shopping Event. INN Transition North receives donations and grants totaling $90,500 which includes $75,000 from Northern Trust Bank of Florida and $500 from the House of Huston Foundation for debt retirement. The Women's Relief Association gave $10,000 for long-term maintenance. JLM contributes $10,000 in year-end revenues to INN Transition North, Inc. debt retirement. JLM Headquarters receives grant of $149,500 from Florida Department of State, Division of Historic Resources. Initiated Headquarters' Capital Campaign (for debt retirement) and raised pledges of $129,063 including $1,500 grant from the Alex & Agnes 0. McIntosh Foundation, $2,500 from the Ruth & August Geiger Charity Foundation, and $500 grant from the House of Huston. JLM contributes $Z500 to Headquarters' debt retirement from film profits.

  • Enabling Fund Grants: AGAPE Women's Center, Women of Miami Beach, Inc. Center for Folk and Community Art, Youth Crime Watch of America.
  • Major Milestones: Headquarters receives a Florida Department of State, Division of Historic Resources grant of $149,500. Initiated Headquarters' Capital Campaign and completed renovation plans for Headquarters. Established Headquarters' Maintenance Fund, relocated Encore Shop, approved Speaker-Series as a new fund raiser for 1997-98. JLM was one of 29 Leagues that proposed a new AJLI External Policy Resolution on Domestic Violence which was passed at Annual Conference in Atlanta.

Mini fund-raisers, including Cookbook sales and Jello Creepy Costume Exchange net $5,150. INN Transition North receives $10,000 from the Women's Relief Fund for long term maintenance, $30,000 from The Miami Heat Outreach and Holiday Happening nets $62,000. Headquarters receives $18,300 in capital contributions and $71,700 in renovation donations.

  • Major Milestones: Debt on INN Transition North buildings is retired. JLM is asked to host Holiday Happening, a major event for Domestic Violence - the event has a record 1,000 plus in attendance and 29 co-sponsoring organizations. Stationary is redesigned along with our public relations piece giving JLM the ability to produce coordinated, professional PR packets. Headquarters is moved into the David William Hotel and renovations begin with a target completion date of mid-July. Speakers Series is launched featuring HelenThomas and receives wide community attendance and acclaim. Upper age limits for membership are eliminated and geographic area is widened to "South Florida."

Fund Development, with the help of the Cookbook Committee raised $2,055. JLM Headquarters continued to retire its debt with $72,000. raised towards debt and renovations; remaining debt of $119,081.59.
  • Community Projects: INN Transition North, INN Transition South, KRISTI House, AGAPE Women's Center, Children's Cultural Connection, Done-In-a-Day, GLADSTONE Center for Girls, Habitat for Humanity, PACE Center for Girls, PLASMAS, the YWCA Saturday Matinee, and WLRM-Ready to Learn.
  • Enabling Fund: Leadership Miami for the production of a film on WAGES, ABRIENDA PUERTAS for their summer youth volunteer program, the University of Miami Child Protection Program for hygiene kits for teens, and the Miami Bridge for the construction of their summer mural.
  • Major Milestones: Completed the renovations of our historic headquarters with our permanent move and grand opening completed in the fall of 1998. Additionally, JLM received a historic preservation award in the spring of 1999 for our headquarters' efforts from Dade Heritage Trust.

  • Community Projects: Agape; Children's Cultural Connection; Girl Scouts; Gladstone Center; INN Transition North; INN Transition South; Healthy Habits; Kristi House; LUCHA; PACE; YWCA Saturday Matinee.
  • Major Milestones: Groundbreaking for INN Transition South, a 56 apartment, transitional living facility for women and their children who are victims of domestic violence and homeless families; JLM receives $2.8 million from Miami-Dade County for construction of INN Transition; South Host League for the AJLI Annual Conference; Tenth Anniversary of INN Transition North; 2000-2005 Strategic Plan completed; honored by Miami-Dade County Commission on Women for our work in the area of Domestic Violence.
